Having grown up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, my love of the ocean is very much part of who I am. I’m simply not able to flourish without being close to a coastline. And this year, the hottest year on record in the UK, I am lucky to live in close proximity to a beach.
The coastlines here behave somewhat differently to those in my native home. The extreme tides in this country are so dramatic compared to the moderate tides I grew up with in Australia, and they are always a sight of wonder for me. While I’m not typically a painter of boat scenes, I do like the restfulness of seeing boats encased in the calm of a low tide.
