I painted ‘Hopscotch’ in January and early Feb 2026, when the south-west of England experienced its wettest January and February on record. Being hemmed in out of the rain brought back childhood memories of not being allowed outside to play, and of somehow improvising with playing hopscotch on carefully placed tea towels on the kitchen floor (mum wasn’t happy!).
